We have received reports today that Microsoft have added an automatic update which displays an icon next to the clock, encouraging the registration for an upgrade to Windows 10.
As usual Microsoft have failed to give us the option if we want this update. Also, the information regarding an upgrade is not particularly clear.
The option has appeared because Microsoft would like everyone to upgrade to Windows 10 from all previous versions. Due to the unmitigated disaster of Windows 8 and 8.1, most folks will probably be very glad to upgrade, BUT DONT UPGRADE YET.
Generally, when Microsoft release a new operating system ,it if full of bugs and it can take months before settling down. However, for the release of Windows 10, a significant amount of testing by technical users should make the release a little more smooth.
PC Repair Leeds always advise not upgrading to a new OS for at least 6 months to allow the bugs to worked though, particularly if you are a business user. Whilst Windows 10 is offering a great many new improvements (which after Win 8 isn’t really that difficult), patience is your best option.
To remove the annoying icon, go to Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, then click the option to show updates. Look for update KB3035583. Uninstall this update and reboot the PC.
As usual, if you have any concerns, contact us today on 0113 8000 192.
