Microsoft 365 Email and SharePoint Backup

Microsoft Email 365 solution
Published: November 1, 2024

We have partnered with a cloud backup provider to give our customers peace of mind while keeping their data secure and easily restorable. Backup of Microsoft 365 products is essential, particularly emails and Sharepoint data.

Your data needs to be protected. Additionally, to back up all or just specific OneDrive areas, SharePoint sites, and Exchange mailboxes. However, it also needs to be easily recoverable with a click of one button.

Data loss happens all the time and at any time. No matter how many policies you introduce or how careful you are. A few common reasons for data loss are hardware failures, theft, human errors, and software issues, to name a few.

Organisations must protect their SharePoint data and emails from being deleted. With intent or targeted ransomware attacks, these scenarios are becoming more frequent.  Malware detection within the backup tool adds a layer of security.  Using protection to remove threats from your backup sets ensures your recoveries are threat-free.

While some companies believe the provider’s (Microsoft) responsibility is to look after their data, this is incorrect. Microsoft has a “Shared Responsibility Model”. This helps organisations understand which areas they are responsible for in the IT environment. By understanding this framework, you can establish your duties and where a provider’s duties begin and end.

In short, Microsoft’s role in the “Shared Responsibility” model is all related to the back-end infrastructure of the cloud platforms they provide to their customers. This focuses on service delivery, so there is little or no service interruption.

The customer’s role within the model is classed as the data owner, and the best way for them to protect their data is to have a complete backup of their applications and data stored separately from the Microsoft Cloud.
