When physical intervention is used, the regulation 35 steps start on their own, and the manager is reminded until each one is done.
Regulation 35 of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 sets out what must happen after a restraint: a record within 24 hours, the registered person speaking to the staff involved and signing within 48 hours, and the child given the chance to talk about it within 5 days.
In Precinct Care, a daily log that mentions physical intervention opens an incident form. Saving it starts the clock.
Where we are: Precinct Care is in final development, shaped with registered managers, Responsible Individuals and Reg 44 visitors. We are booking demonstrations now and taking a small number of pilot homes. The snippets on this page are from the working system, filled with made-up people and records.
What happened, who was involved, and what was done, linked to the young person's daily log.
The hold used, how long, who was involved and any injuries, as a separate record.
A countdown on the young person's file and the manager's dashboard until the review is signed.
The talk with the young person is recorded, in their own words if they want.
Serious events to notify Ofsted are tracked, so none is missed.
Natural consequences agreed with the young person, and restorative conversations, recorded alongside.

The young person's file shows a banner until each step is done, for example: restraint on 17 Oct needs manager review within 48 hours (19 hours left). The area manager sees every open restraint review across their homes.
Physical interventions and incidents are counted in the Reg 44 visit pack and the Ofsted inspection pack.
Restraint is not expected in supported accommodation, so any use is recorded and reviewed. In adult services it is only lawful under the Mental Capacity Act, and is recorded as restrictive practice. In Scotland the Care Inspectorate eForms apply: restrictive practice within 24 hours and incidents within 48 hours.
Book a 30-minute demonstration. We'll show you the screens your staff, managers and inspectors would use.
