Precinct Care

Safeguarding software for children's homes

Any member of staff can raise a concern in a minute. The designated safeguarding lead sees it straight away, decides what happens next, and every referral, strategy meeting and follow-up is tracked to the end.

Most safeguarding failures in serious case reviews are not about one missed event. They are about small worries recorded in different places that nobody put together. Precinct Care keeps concerns, incidents, missing episodes and risks in one place, and points out the patterns.

The designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and the Responsible Individual get a dashboard across every home. Each registered manager sees their own.

Where we are: Precinct Care is in final development, shaped with registered managers, Responsible Individuals and Reg 44 visitors. We are booking demonstrations now and taking a small number of pilot homes. The snippets on this page are from the working system, filled with made-up people and records.

What the safeguarding dashboard does

Raise a concern from any shift

A disclosure, a mark, a change in how a young person is, something seen online. Staff write what they saw or heard, in the child's words where they can.

Triage by the DSL

New concerns wait at the top until the DSL decides: refer to the MASH, tell the social worker, add to the risk register or keep monitoring.

A step-by-step flowchart

What to do, in order, from "Is the child in danger now?" to who to tell. The same flowchart is on every young person's Safety tab and in the policy.

Allegations against staff

Kept apart and shown only to the DSL, the Responsible Individual and the LADO, with the LADO told within one working day.

Exploitation, online harm and Prevent

Signs of sexual and criminal exploitation and county lines, online contact from unknown adults, and radicalisation concerns, each with its own record and follow-up.

Working with other agencies

MASH referrals, strategy meetings, police intelligence forms, CEOP reports and Reg 40 notifications to Ofsted, all logged with dates.

Safeguarding concerns in Precinct Care, with a new concern waiting for the DSL to triage

Concerns from every shift, in one list

Concerns are listed newest first, with who raised them and what has been done. A new concern shows needs triage until the DSL has looked at it. Once referred, the record shows who was told, when, and what they said, so nothing depends on someone remembering a phone call.

If a concern is serious, for example the police are called or a child protection enquiry starts, Precinct Care sets the follow-up actions and deadlines, including the Reg 40 notification to Ofsted and the placing authority.

Patterns to look at in Precinct Care, such as incidents after family contact and weekend missing episodes

Patterns spotted across the records. You decide.

Precinct Care reads the daily logs, incidents and missing episodes and suggests patterns worth a look, such as nine incidents after family contact in 90 days, or missing episodes that all happen at weekends. Each one comes with a suggestion and four choices: review the risk, see the records, give someone a task, or record that it is not a concern and why.

It never decides for you. Your judgement wins, and the reason is kept.

Reviews prompted, not forgotten

When something changes, such as a second missing episode or a physical intervention, Precinct Care suggests an early review of the young person's plans and risk assessments, and shows which plans are due within the next fortnight. See the risk register and incident follow-up.

Questions we're asked

Who can see safeguarding records?

Staff can raise a concern about any young person in their home. The registered manager sees their own home's concerns and risks. The DSL and the Responsible Individual see every home. Allegations against staff are only shown to the DSL, the Responsible Individual and the LADO, and every record opened is in the audit trail.

Does it make safeguarding decisions?

No. Precinct Care suggests patterns and early reviews, and sets the follow-up a decision needs. The DSL and the manager decide. If a suggested pattern isn't a concern, they say why, and that is recorded.
