Case Study: Reliable Internet for the 42nd Rotherham Scout Group

Published: October 6, 2025

The 42nd Rotherham Scout Group gives young people in South Yorkshire the chance to learn new skills, work towards badges and take part in activities that build confidence and friendships. Like many community groups, it is run by volunteers, and anything that wastes their time takes energy away from the young people they support.

The group approached QLine IT because connectivity at their meeting site had become a constant frustration. The premises could not access stable broadband, and mobile coverage in the area was too weak for 4G to support even routine admin tasks.

This caused two problems:

For leaders: updating Online Scout Manager was unreliable and frustrating, wasting valuable time.

For scouts: they missed out on learning opportunities and digital activities that required internet access.

The 42nd Rotherham Scout Group wanted a solution that was reliable, safe for young people and simple for volunteers to manage. As a community organisation, the group also needed the project to be delivered at a sensible cost, without creating an ongoing technical burden for its leaders.

The Solution

QLine IT identified Starlink satellite internet as the best fit. Unlike traditional broadband, Starlink works directly via satellite, making it ideal for locations that struggle with mobile data connections and traditional broadband services.

Starlink delivers:

High-speed, low-latency internet regardless of local infrastructure.

Simple installation with minimal downtime.

Consistent performance even in remote areas.

With plenty of experience in Starlink and access point installation, our team surveyed the site, recommended the right equipment and completed the work with minimal disruption to the group and its meetings. Our team:
